OUR SERVICES

WHAT WE DO

Empower trafficking survivors to reclaim their independence and rebuild their lives through survivor-led peer support and services.

Execute survivors’ real-life experiences to disperse the realities about human trafficking, satanic ritual abuse (SRA) and commercial sexual exploitation (CSE).

Equip communities with educational trainings and presentations with the intention that victims can be recognized, traffickers can be held accountable, and buyers can be converted through demand reduction.

SURVIVOR-LED PEER SUPPORT

A Courageous Rose was founded by a survivor. Maria has lived through the horrors of human trafficking and satanic ritual abuse and has received services for herself and her children and knows what it is like to be in that position. Maria has experienced and overcame drug addiction, homelessness, and being that she was out of the workforce for 5 years while she was in “The Life,” she knows what it takes to get back into a career after a long duration of exploitation.

“I used to cry when I had to go into the grocery store or go into a gas station to pay for gas. Everything was just so overwhelming, and it felt like nobody understood why I was so shook up, why I was so scared and paranoid, and why I just felt so hopeless. I was exhausted. Mentally, physically, spiritually. I know what it is like to feel like you are absolutely nothing. I want to be that ray of light to others who feel exactly how I did. Sometimes it is okay to just survive. Sometimes, that is enough. Sometimes, that is ALL you can do, is just that, get through the day alive…I want to be a voice for the ones who have lost theirs, and help them scream at the top of their lungs once they get it back…”

BOXING PERSONAL SESSIONS AND GROUP CLASSES

A Courageous Rose is partnered with Knockout Cancer Boxing Club, located in Fort Collins, CO. Knockout Cancer Boxing Club was founded by Shane Swartz, 6-time national boxing champion, alternate on 1996 Olympic team, a cancer survivor and recovering alcoholic, with over 6 years of sobriety.

Ryan is currently training for an MMA fight and is passionate about teaching women and men self-defense skills. Ryan experienced extreme violence at a very young age, is a recovering addict, and has a place in his heart to stick up for the ones who might feel weak, encouraging them to keep their head up and keep fighting, even when it feels impossible.

Maria is a USA Boxing Certified Coach. At A Courageous Rose, we recognize how healing also comes through getting in touch with one’s body. What better way to work on your self-worth than hitting some mitts or a punching bag? Exercise produces feel good endorphins, and boxing is a great way to take out some rage in a healthy and positive way.

Boxing is especially helpful for trafficking survivors, because they have had so much of their self-dignity stripped away, and throwing some punches is a way to get some of that fire back into their souls. Personal sessions can be offered to survivors no matter what level of experience they have with boxing. Even if has been years since they have hit the gym or never have worked out a day in their life, we are here to help. That is one of the great things about boxing, it can fit the needs of any age group, any person, at any point of their life!

Classes are conducted in a trauma-informed, safe environment. We will schedule classes with survivors only. All participation is confidential. If there are individuals who are requesting specific accommodations to participate in boxing classes, such as requests to only train with a female coach, please contact us and let us know. All coaches are SafeSport certified.

Group boxing classes will be scheduled or created should there be enough survivors interested in taking part in this…please contact maria@acourageousrose.org for more information about boxing.

GENERAL ASSISTANCE

Adequate nutrition is always vital, but especially after exiting exploitation. Trauma is hard on the body, every single part of it. Survivors and their families need healthy foods to heal, grow, and nurture their precious bodies, minds, and souls. Sometimes, going to a food bank isn’t an option, and frankly, it might not be safe. Being a survivor-led organization, we understand that this is a real problem. General necessities like gas, hygiene items, bus passes, clean socks and underwear, and so forth are quite often an emergent need.

If you would like to contribute towards helping a trafficking survivor and their families with general assistance, please consider donating.

ACR partners with law enforcement and other community partners/organizations to always provide a trauma-informed response to human trafficking victims and survivors. ACR has seen the constant need for general assistance while working on the front lines so your donation can help a survivor immediately.
